Hmm, this is interesting - Day 1

Hmm, this is interesting - Day 1

Well, we've arrived in Thailand. It's not quite been the picturesque paradise we were initially expecting, but we're having a cracking time all the same. Our trip all appeared to be going to plan with our Emirates flights. The service was exceptional, the food, for aeroplane food was really nice and everything was really easy and completely stress-free. This began to change however as we got dropped off in Bangkok. We were no longer under the well organised Fly Emirates banner and had been shifted to somewhat less organised Bangkok Airways. After a mile hike to our gate and a 20 minute security check we made it to the plane.

The fun continued on the plane, and the Fly Emirates food was a joy of the past, as the food provided on Bangkok Airways could only have been described as "hmm, this is interesting". The tray of 'delicacies' included a dry mixed salad, a plate of very sticky, almost solid rice and some dry unnamed meat which slightly resembled pork, but we couldn't be 100% sure exactly what it was. The final pot of delightful cuisine couldn't even be described, we literally had no idea what it was. A large blob of grey matter, which was lightly dusted with what looked like cheese. It's safe to say we didn't give that particular delicacy a go.

When we finally arrived in Phuket we managed to get our baggage quickly, which was nice, but after that it was a combination of rain, humidity and an interesting taxi journey which started with our driver pushing cars out of the way so he could get his car out. After arriving at Tiger Muay Thai we were un-nerved even more after being greeted by a security guard, who could easily have been Mr Ping, of An Idiot Abroad fame.

After experiencing Mr Ping repeating "Ah, London, London. You white skin. London" over and over again, we were finally shown to our apartment complex. I think at the time we were a little harsh on our apartment, as, on reflection it's really nice. The bed is massive, the air con is decent and the shower is surprisingly good. I think the main thing that deterred us from liking the apartment last night was the fact we'd gained a pet. A simple task like closing the curtains soon turned into me shrieking like a girl as it turned out our flat was already inhabited, by a lovely golden lizard, much it's detriment (RIP Lizzy). This, added to the fact we were already unsure of the place, and that it poured with rain all night long made for an uneasy first few hours in the place we'll call 'home' for the next 3 weeks.

Since rising late Friday morning however our time in Thailand has begun to become far more enjoyable. Still very interesting, but enjoyable all the same. We're now checked in with the Muay Thai camp, have visited Phuket town and the room is fully stocked with a wide range of tasty treats. Lets hope the good times continue to roll, and by the time we leave Thailand it's still as interesting as it is today.

Hopefully update again tomorrow :)

  1. After a few teething problems - particularly those belonging to your short lived pet - your holiday is now settling down and sounds very interesting!! A pity you have to go all that way to find rain and a cold pool but hopefully the sun will shine soon and the suntan can begin in earnest. Not too keen on the idea of Bungee Jumpimg (or bungy as the Thais call it!) but no doubt you will make your own minds up. Good luck with the training next week - sounds more like bootcamp than a holiday and no doubt Dan (with his excellent computer skills) will provide an appropriate video as a comparison!! Enjoyed the Idiot Abroad clip. Speak soon and enjoy the contnuing adventure = hope there are no more invaders. Mum and dad Dunky xxxxxxx
